The pelican crossing times are too long.

Reported in the Request Timing Review category anonymously at 14:49, Tue 2 April 2019

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 1 minute later. ref: 1591876.

Both sets of pelican crossing lights take a very long time to change to allow people to cross. I watch children running out across two lanes of traffic to catch their buses to Duston School. Then because the next set of lights to cross take too long, they continue to run out in front of cars. Both sets of lights should stop within a minute of pressing the button so people - especially children can get right across both roads on the Weedon Road outside Beacon Bingo. I have witnessed too many near misses because of the wait time on both sides of the road. This needs to change as soon as possible. I believe this problem has been highlighted before, but nothing has changed.

I have not had a response to the concern I sent on 02/04/19 regarding the waiting time at the pelican crossing at Beacon Bingo on the Weedon Road in Northampton. While standing at the nearby bus stop every morning I see countless children giving up on waiting for the lights to change to allow them to cross over to the bus stop outside Beacon Bingo. They then run out in front of cars so they don't miss their bus to Duston School. This road is hazardous at the best of times - the accidents that have happened at this spot reflect this. Please can someone: 1. Take this request seriously and change the waiting time for the lights to change to red so people can cross. The waiting time is ridiculously long and unnecessary.

    2. Make it so that BOTH sides of the Weedon Road at that pelican crossing go red at the same time so children can cross over the whole of the Weedon Road instead of half of it and so they are not tempted to run across the second half of the road in front of cars when they are fearful of missing their bus to school.

    I await your response,

    Amber Harvey
