4 bollards on the bridge
Reported in the Crash Barriers - Damaged / Missing category anonymously at 12:33, Tue 23 April 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 2 minutes later. ref: 1610239.
4 sets of bollards, all bollards have had severe damage. Bigger cars are struggling to get through these bollards due to being too close together as a width restrictor. As this is a car only road, bigger cars are struggling to get through too. Suggestion: Bollards on exit should be removed, as unnecessary due to going in bollards. However they do need repairing. Vehicles are receiving damage from these bollards too.

UPDATE FROM CALLER: If the exit barriers are to prevent drivers shecaining around the entry barriers, a suggested option of removing the posts and adding a solid white centre line and a non stopping sign to stop drivers taking enforceable risks.

Direct input from member of public :
To clarify, including that of the update typed on my behalf of above, what I was attempting to suggest overall is:
1. Remove (lower) both sets of exit barriers 2. widen entry barriers width by 6 inches, suggested 3. double solid centre white lines for duration of bridge, reinforced on approach to entry barriers by the appropriate prohibitive order signs to disincentive crossing centre line I.e. vehicles chicaining to bypass barriers. (A 'bespoke' information sign such as "Warning: It is an enforceable offence to cross the centre line" would highlight the risk of non conformity, albeit God alone knows how long that would take for that to be approved.) 4. Monitor rate of rtc's offset against driver's chicaining. (I believe commiting an enforceable offence will be relatively unlikely, especially where there are following or oncoming vehicles but it would be interesting to see after short period of time e.g. six weeks.)
Irrespective of all or any of my suggestions, this is manifestly a failed width restriction strategy which almost certainly has attracted numerous complaints, not least from a fair percentage of those whose vehicles are now damaged. I am contactable as an 'interested non-expert' should anyone wish to get in touch. This comms is by way of hoping to assist in an issue whuch is not sustainable rather than purely a complaint from a m.o.p.

The gap between the bollards is too small

I agree, the gap between the bollards is too small. Cars are being damaged and it is putting people off coming into Oundle.

The gap between the bollards needs increasing as it is currently to small. People are put off from coming into the town center which is having a detrimental affect on the town center shops as it’s affecting footfall.
