Drain cover in footpath lifts in heavy rain

Reported in the Loose / Raised/Sunken category by Brian Skittrall at 09:58, Thursday 9 May 2019

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 2 minutes later. ref: 1624596.

The drain discharges through a culvert into the brook nearby but this is partially blocked and so cannot cope with the volume of water in heavy rain. This results in the backed up water forcing up the drain cover and discharging onto the pavement

  • Because this issue is caused by restricted flow in the drain between the cover and the brook, the turbulence of the water backing up is undermining the area and the cover is now sinking and becoming a trip hazard. This is also affecting the road immediately upstream and is causing the surface to gradually break up. Sooner or later this will cause a collapse if this is not addressed
