Impassable bridleway
Reported in the Gate - Damaged/ Missing category anonymously at 15:19, Wed 12 June 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 2 minutes later. ref: 1658029.
The metal gate before the bridge coming from winwick direction is not suitable as it is hung on a slant and slams shut very easily and quickly but also cannot be opened or closed on the horse because it also can’t be thrown open all the way as there is electric tape fencing along the bridleway. The gate leads directly onto a bridge over a small Brooke or just drainage ditches but it’s starting to crumble away at the sides. His bridge is about 2metres long and the next small wooden brown gate opens towards me. Again making this nearly impossible with a horse as the metal gate has trapped up on the bridge and the wooden one opens towards the horse with is squashed in this small space! I feel the metal gate could be removed? There are no stock out as it’s a conservation field leading to arable. I also think it would benefit from a trim and wooden gate replaced with an easier one. Or the possibility of no gates at all? It’s a very tricky part of a lovely bridleway which always seems to stress the horses out as they are not happy to stand on the bridge where they can see below them running water and a drop down either side of them. And being trapped in it by the difficult gates.
