Road drain (i.e. the one in the road) and the cover on footpath a few feet away are both blocked with mud & dangerous
Reported in the Blocked/Damaged category by Bob Blake at 00:48, Sun 16 June 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 2 minutes later. ref: 1662237.
Whenever there is any rain above moderate, both the drain situated in the road and the footpath drain cover (near the steps leading to the Old School House property) bubble out muddy water meaning that people have to walk out into Thorpe Road. This is especially dangerous at times when children going to or are leaving the junior school up the hill. I persuaded a water worker who was in the area to lift the cover to identify what it was covering and that is why I know it is a blocked drain and hence the picture.

Sorry but according to the Engineer I spoke to the cover on the footpath is NOT the responsibility of Thames or Anglia. I have been round this loop before where the three of you blame each other but still the problem persists! If there is an accident as a result of this I assume the responsibility will also be pushed around... When is the next "routine cyclic programme" scheduled for?

Hi, Today I have been speaking with an Engineer from the cable company currently digging up roads to install cable who it seems previously worked for the Council on drains. He was able to confirm that the cover is indeed above a storm drain - he was able to show me an identical one installed near the culvert about 70 yards away. I believe that a neighbour of mine has also reported problems with the blocked drains outside both of our properties on the Ring and Thorpe Road. As well as letting me know the schedule for the routine cyclic programme could you let me know what this actually involves, i.e. do they actually check the main drain is clear and able to handle high volumes of water. Could I also see the past history of when this work has been carried out. I would be happy to meet with representatives from Thames, Anglia and yourselves to discuss the ongoing issues we have in this area and could arrange for as many of my neighbours as would be useful to join us or to gather their comments. If it is relevant, the properties surrounding the main area for these problems are quite old, i.e. definitely pre-1936 which I believe is a key date. Thank You, Bob

19th June - an Engineer from Thames arrived this morning, I think in response to my neighbours call to the Council who had passed it on to Thames. His inspection took the all too familiar path of looking at some drains and saying that they were not too bad after pouring some dye down and seeing it arrive at another in the line - which of course has no correlation at all with flow rates. He would not even test all of the them because they were not on his map! He lifted the road drain I had reported and could see it was full of mud but would not lift the one on the path because he did not recognise it... Neither of these were on his map and he does not have the equipment necessary to do anything about it anyway. He went away to call his Managers. Until the Council and Thames look into this situation together on-site, at the same time, this situation will continue - I believe it is called teamwork... Bob

Problems ongoing - appreciate Thames Water are now being held responsible but issues are still there so I do not see how this can be closed?
