Inadequate signage and dangerous timings on traffic lights
Reported in the Safety Bollard - Damaged/Missing category anonymously at 13:52, Thu 20 June 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 3 minutes later. ref: 1668351.
The new traffic lights at the Barnwell junction of the A605 are not set up safely. They change very quickly from green to red, especially as it is a 60mph road and do not give traffic approaching at speed sufficient time to stop safely. Additionally the vehicles joining from the side road are released to quickly as cars failing to stop in time have been going through the red lights and nearly hitting the adjoining traffic. The signage warning drivers of the new lights are placed far to close to the lights (actually when the new lights are in sight so the signs are completely pointless in their current location). On top of these issues, the verges as you approach the lights block line of sight to the new lights till it is close to being too close to stop safely. There been multiple reports of near misses/lorries stopping dangerously or being unable to stop at all. Please do not leave it till there is a dangerous or fatal accident before changing the set up.

The lights no longer are activated by the presence of a vehicle on the old A605. They operate seemingly on some randomised sequence. This pointlessly stops traffic on the A605 24hrs a day even 'tho there is an absence of traffic needing to join or leave the A605. When the system was first installed it was sensible, excellent and a credit. Now it lacks all these attributes. Eastern side the foliage needs trimming back as it hides the filter due to the bend in the road.
