Path GT1 to south of A43 badly overgrown and poorly marked.
Reported in the Passage-Obstructed/Overgrown category anonymously at 14:02, Mon 1 July 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 2 minutes later. ref: 1680365.
At the end of the concrete stretch of path heading north is a confusing way marker, overshadowed by a large "PRIVATE" sign. There is no clear way through from this point to meet the bridge to the north-east, over the stream where the path turns south. Everything is overgrown, including the bridge itself. Also, after crossing the bridge, you have to fight through weeds and crops at the edge of the field because the right of way here has not been cleared for months. Interestingly, after GT1 meets GT7, the path has been properly maintained for ages. Different landowner, I assume.

The stretch from here to the footbridge crossing to the northeast (where the path heads south) is now impassable! After a 90 minute walk, I was faced with retracing my steps or fighting through a complete tangle of grass, weeds etc. When I eventually managed to get back to this point, I noticed that the Private sign had gone. Other than that, no change. And the access to this path from the road to Newton is also badly overgrown with weeds. The road verge has recently been mowed but nothing has been done on the other side of the gate.

Visit has been made and private signs removed. Unfortunately path is not on our mow program and will put forward for next year to see if can be added

So you are basically saying that, for the foreseeable future, there is no safe way to get from Mill Hill to the rights of way to the south of the A43? The only way to get to the GT7 path is by walking all the way down the road - where there are no footpaths - and along Newton Road, almost to the outskirts of Geddington! Also, path GT1 is maintained and passable south of the point where it crosses GT7, so why not north of that point?
