Dangerous turning right from Billing Road into Rushmore Road

Reported in the Request Timing Review category anonymously at 16:32, Wed 31 July 2019

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 4 minutes later. ref: 1715330.

Traffic light timing needs to be changed (or ideally a right turn filter be added) for traffic heading away from Northampton on Billing Road and turning right down Rushmere Road, towards the A45. This is a busy junction especially at rush hour/school leaving times. The current set up means only 2-3 cars can make this turn, usually after the lights have changed, as traffic heading towards Northampton from Billing Road East frequently goes through Amber/Red lights.

  • Following a car crash yesterday my fence at 253 Billing Road East has been damaged. I have arranged for my fence to be replaced starting on Wednesday. But the damaged traffic light and pole are leaning on the damaged fence and hedge and so will need to be removed before Wednesday. Anne Partridge

  • Is anything being done about this? Now schools are back this junction is even worse at busy times. Surely it would not be difficult to change the timings on the lights so that the ones heading towards town on Billing Road go red a little before the ones heading out, allowing some time for cars turning right from Billing Road into Rushmore Road.

  • There are several issues at this junction. It is unsafe for pedestrians to cross here and at school hours most of the pedestrians are children either heading to NSB or Abington Vale. This junction must be made safe for pedestrians too. Too many near-misses.

  • In response to the comments made regarding this junction I can confirm that this junction has been previously investigated and regrettably alterations to the junction within the current junction layout would immediately have a significant impact on traffic capacity. The best solution would be to completely redesign the highway assets at the junction when it is due for refurbishment. However with so many other sites across our highway network (often in far worse physical condition) that are desperately needing modernisation, this site at Billing Road / Rushmere Road is not presently considered a priority for the short to medium term. Thanks Andrew
