The Zebra crossing on Braunston Road opposite the play area on braunston road needs changing to a traffic light system
Reported in the Lamp/Bulb Failure category anonymously at 09:38, Thu 8 August 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 3 minutes later. ref: 1724350.
The zebra crossing is not fit for purpose as cars speed up this road and do not tend to stop for people at the crossing a traffic light system would be safer for all concerned I use this crossing to and from work and have nearly been hit twice.

Thank you for your query to Northamptonshire County Council’s Street Doctor Service with regard to your concerns about the zebra crossing on Braunston Road, Daventry. Although this crossing is on the A45, which is part of the County Councils Primary Road network, it does get relatively little use compared to crossings in many other locations. The conspicuity of pedestrians waiting at this crossing was raised at the time when NCC undertook their review of street lighting within the county and an additional two lamp columns were retained in this vicinity to ensure there was adequate lighting at this point. This crossing also has had high conspicuity LED belisha heads fitted in the last few years. These beacons are highly visible for some distance and are designed to ensure that approaching motorists are given every opportunity to observe the crossing and pedestrian activity in good time. There is no conclusive national data that suggests pelican crossings are safer than zebra crossings. It should also be borne in mind that some pedestrians may not be willing to wait for a green man signal at pelican crossings and may instead attempt to cross during gaps in traffic and vehicles speeds may well increase in this area as drivers are given a "green light" and do not observe for waiting pedestrians . Zebra crossings on the other hand can afford almost instantaneous priority for pedestrians, and drivers have to slow, and observe for the presence of pedestrians in the vicinity of the crossing.
