Reflective bollards still missing after #1704956
Reported in the Safety Bollard - Damaged/Missing category anonymously at 07:46, Sat 17 August 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 4 minutes later. ref: 1735004.
I'm sorry, but this job is certainly NOT fixed(ref: #1704956)! These two photos were taken thursday afternoon. The first photo is taken looking uphill from the Lilford direction towards Pilton; it shows the first 20 metres of ditch still has NO reflective bollards on the verge; then there are about 10 new bollards, spaced at distances apart varying from about 7 metres to about 17 metres apart (why are they not equidistant?); then the top (Pilton) end of the ditch beyond these new bollards is still unprotected with NO bollards for about 40 metres(!) and this is a stretch that we know has had at least one vehicle in the ditch before the 2014 bollard installation(see 2014 photo in #1704956 report). The second photo is taken from the top (Pilton) end, stood at the start of the ditch; you cannot see a reflective bollard for 40 metres. If you look at my #1704956 report of 22nd July, the 'Photo 1' there shows what it looked like in 2014, which is what it was expected to look like again now, with 14 equidistantly spaced bollards visible coming all the way up to the top Pilton end of the ditch. This whole length of verge is a soft ground, narrow, overgrown road edge hiding a deep ditch, alongside a narrow country road, which, when a large vehicle like a grain lorry or a coach comes the other way, especially happening when the A605 is closed and this is the diversion, encourages you to put a tyre on the verge as you pull out of the way. Being soft, the ground tends to give way into the ditch, and the heavier your vehicle the more likely. On top of that, the broadband cable was put up this verge last year, and it would be a nightmare if that got damaged when a vehicle went in the ditch. Please come back and protect this ditch with reflective bollards for its full length as it was in 2014.

This verge has been cut now, so you can bollards in it easier. I counted only 7 bollards along this verge this morning, with long unprotected stretches of ditch adjacent to this narrow road - there were 14 in 2014.

This stretch of soft verge and ditch still needs reflective bollards at the top and bottom ends. In the past a heavy vehicle has been pulled from the ditch at the top end where you have no bollards. As well as the danger of heavy vehicles pulling onto the verge if they meet the like coming the other way, we are now getting into the frost and foggy season of restricted visibility when there is a pea souper.

Still not completed satisfactorily after 3 months of danger, and it looked today like a bit of the verge at the top end (where there are no reflective bollards) had washed into the ditch with the heavy rain and runoff, so at that point in effect the ditch is next to the tarmac.

Apologies for delayed response. The number of bollards required here was re-assessed under our current criteria. Please make a separate report for any subsequent issues to ensure an individual inspection/response can be provided as appropriate. Thank you.
