Footpath impassable due to overhanging and encroaching vegetation
Reported in the Restricted Visibility / Overgrown / Overhanging category anonymously at 14:15, Wed 28 August 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 6 minutes later. ref: 1747400.
The footpath along the A508 between the Yardley Gobion turn and the Cosgrove/Castlethorpe turn is; -impassable in parts (without stepping on to the road, which is very dangerous due to the volume and speed of traffic) due to overgrown trees/bushes. This is the half of the path closer to Yardley Gobion. - difficult to walk along due to the verge taking over the footpath (and weeds growing through the path), which means you have to go very close to the road at the point where the traffic is closest to the path (no margin at the end closer to Cosgrove).
The verges have been getting worse over the last few years and the trees/bushes have reached the point where it's impassable over this spring/summer.
Please can you (in priority order): 1) Cut back the over hanging trees and bushes. This would also improve visibility of the YG junction. 2) Push/cut back the verge to regain the path width so that it is more easily passable and allows pedestrians to keep distance from the road. Also treat the weeds and sweep the gravel/glass. 3) Resurface the subsided / broken sections (lower priority based on current budget restrictions, but would be lovely if possible).
This is the main path to link Yardley Gobion with Cosgrove (and then the quieter roads and other paths leading further into MK). It's used by pedestrians young and old and also cyclists (due to the high speeds on the A508, it's terrifying to ride on).
Please don't hesitate to ask if any more questions - I've plenty more photos, but it's limited to 3.
Many thanks in advance,
Simon
