Lack of a warning sign
Reported in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category anonymously at 20:00, Mon 23 September 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 2 minutes later. ref: 1778088.
I have lived in Hellidon for 13 years, and have to pull out of the junction where Priors Marston Road meets the Hellidon road heading towards Prior Marston. This junction has always been a unsighted junction from both directions (especially if you are approaching it from the Byfield direction heading towards Priors Marston). Cars fly round the corners and are confronted with slow traffic just pulling out. The junction is a game of chance as although you have looked both ways a car can be upon you in no time. I think a warning sign about hidden junction would be great.

Thank you for your query to Northamptonshire County Council’s Street Doctor Service with regard to the conspicuity of the Hellidon Road / Priors Marston Road junction. I have checked the injury accident record at this location for the last 20 years and am pleased to report that none have been reported, via the Police, at this junction. In common with all roads within the county we will continue to monitor this junction but this would not currently trigger any intervention for introducing further engineering measures on casualty reduction grounds at the junction. With limited budgets we have to spend the available money where it can make the most difference – and that is at the sites where serious accidents are occurring. An officer has also visited the site and confirms that crossroads warning signs are in place on both of the approaches to the junction on Hellidon Road which are clearly visible to approaching drivers. These signs are also backed up by “SLOW” roadmarkings just prior to the crossroads junction. The existing “SLOW” roadmarkings appear to be worn so we will arrange for these to be refurbished and also for new additional “SLOW” roadmarkings to be installed alongside the crossroads warning signs to act as an additional reminder to drivers Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
