  • Thank you for your enquiry to Northamptonshire County Council’s Street Doctor service with regard to your concerns about exiting from the Grey Barn development, Woodford Road, Byfield and your request for signs or roadmarkings to indicate the entrance to this property. Side road warning signs can only be used to indicate the presence of a public road and not the entrance to individual private residencies. Although “Concealed entrance” signs are occasionally seen, often red with white text, these are used to indicate where a temporary access is required for works in a field etc. or during the construction of a new permanent access that will eventually achieve the required visibility standards. As part of the planning agreement for the change of use from Agricultural use to Residential property there would have been requirement from Daventry District Council for the developer to provide a sufficient visibility splay from the access along the Woodford Road. We would therefore suggest that the relevant landowner is contacted to ensure that the relevant hedgeline is cut back to ensure adequate visibility from the access.
