Blocked drain - earlier report
Reported in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 12:04, Thu 24 October 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 1 minute later. ref: 1817743.
Following you comment on an earlier blocked drain issue at this point on High Street this is the feedback from the affected resident: On the day in question there were no parked vehicles on the drain side of the road, other than the cleansing vehicle which had full access to the drain. I witnessed the drain cleaning in operation from my dining room window, which is no more than 20 feet from the drain cover and could see very clearly what was happening.
The operatives lifted the drain cover and put the pipe into the gully, as usual. After a few minutes, the pipe was removed and the drain cover was lowered back into place. I could clearly see that the drain cover was completely choked with debris and grass, and I fully expected the operatives to clean this out. This was not done, they simply left the site.
Other drain covers in the vicinity were marked with a dab of white paint after cleaning, but this one was not; I assume they decided at this point to claim access was blocked by a vehicle.
As Council Tax payers we can expect work to be carried out conscientiously, so on this basis I ask that the team be sent back to finish the job for which they have already received payment. The report claims that the drainage system will take any surface water during periods of wet weather. Clearly this not so, and it is not unusual to see a fairly substantial stream of water flow straight down the High Street on rainy days.' Please re-open this report and pass on the comments from the resident

Further to our telephone conversation I can confirm the following. The crews are requested to take photos before and after of each of the gully prior to and after cleansing work is carried out. The photos of this location clearly show there were vehicles parked opposite each other on both sides of the road which meant this gully was unable to be cleansed at the time of the inspection. In addition, the outlets of the gullies which are cleansed are tested to ensure that they are flowing freely and any that are not are put forward for additional works. I am sorry that this may not be the response you were hoping for however I will re-iterate that should you ever believe a gully is causing a risk of imminent flooding or danger please do not hesitate to contact the Duty Officer on 07000782112 and Northamptonshire Highways will send an emergency team to take action immediately.
