Yellow Box Junction needed
Reported in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 20:01, Saturday 9 November 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 4 minutes later. ref: 1839363.
Traffic waiting to turn right at the traffic lights out of Morrison's Kettering Road are being impeded by Vehicles queuing across the junction at busy times. The lights are on green for right turns for only a short period and sometimes only one or two vehicles are able to get across the lights. A box junction would alleviate this happening on most occasions.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the possibility of creating a yellow box junction on this section of road. Whilst we do agree that such proposals do have merit, observations have shown that the problem is not one of traffic light signalling, road marking or signage, but again rather one of driver behaviour. Unlike specific road traffic enforcement laws that are monitored by cctv in cities such as central London, the painting of a yellow box junction would unlikely to have any affect and may even have the tendency to cause further delays by not maximising use of what is very scarce and essential carriageway space. In addition to this, if we were granted permission by the Chief Constable to paint a yellow box at this junction, a precedent would be set and we would then find it difficult to refuse further applications from other similar busy junctions across our county. At a time of budget pressures on the local highway authority, the maintenance costs involved would have to be considered, as well as it being resource limiting and expensive to administer. However, we shall continue to monitor traffic flows on this busy road.
