Thank you for your enquiry. At present there are no highway defects that meet or exceed our investigatory levels. We do understand the issues associated with parking in residential areas, especially near to schools, many of which were built at a time before the increasing number of cars, vans and lorries now using our roads. The consequence of this means that across the entire highway network the demand for road space has increased. Unfortunately Northamptonshire Highways do not have the powers to take any direct action against vehicles parking on the public highway, at road intersections or across dropped kerbing or private driveways etc. However, if you feel that road safety may be compromised by the parking of vehicles, we normally would suggest that initially you may wish to inform the owners of the offending vehicles, if known, and explain the concern that their parking is causing. However, if this suggestion proves to be ineffective and parking issues continue at this location, then the best way forward would then be for you to contact Northamptonshire Police. Parking a vehicle inappropriately where it is deemed not possible for drivers to safely manoeuvre, pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists to pass unhindered (along a shared footway) or that access to property is impeded, should be reported to Northamptonshire Police’s Safer Community Team on 101 or via their website.
