Roundabout markings completely worn away
Reported in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 15:00, Mon 11 November 2019
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 5 minutes later. ref: 1841463.
An accident was on this spot last week where two vehicles were in collision as one did not realise there was a roundabout as the markings are completely worn away. This is a dangerous junction as people unfamiliar with the road do not realise the priorities at the junction.

There was another collision this morning just before 7am with Police in attendance. Same scenario where traffic turning across the oncoming traffic did not understand the priorities as the road markings and the whole roundabout paint has been worn away. This needs urgent attention before a more serious accident occurs.

Suggest Council review speed limit or change mini-roundabout to a small roundabout given Chapter 5 of the Traffic Signs Manual advises that mini-roundabouts should only be used on roads with a speed limit of 30 mph or less (also refer to Department of Transport publication Mini roundabouts: good practice guidance). The speed limit on this road is 40 mph.

Thank you for contacting Northamptonshire Highways with regard to your request for a reduction of the existing 40mph speed limit along Northfield Avenue between the Northampton Road and Rothwell Road junctions (which includes the Meadow Road mini-roundabout junction) to 30mph. Any requests for the introduction of new or revised speed limits are considered by the Speed Limit Review Panel. The panel is chaired by Northamptonshire Highways Road Safety Manager and consist of safety engineers; road safety practitioners and the Senior Traffic Management Officer for Northamptonshire Police who has delegated authority from the Chief Constable in speed limit consultations. The panel looks at speed and accident data and the nature of the road in question and then, using Department of Transport guidelines determines what the appropriate speed limit for a particular area should be and provides a consensus response from both Police and Highways. We will therefore put this request to the panel for their consideration at their next meeting.
