Speed Restriction signage Heyford Weedon

Reported in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category anonymously at 17:25, Tuesday 7 January 2020

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 7 minutes later. ref: 1924106.

Speed restriction sign through A45 at Heyford. There has been a temporary 30mph restriction(normally 40 mph) through Heyford for several months now without any sign of any road works. Two 40 mph repeater signs were recently uncovered but were rotated through 90 degrees parallel with the road shortly afterwards.

I will throw these other problems in your direction although they may not be yours ( one of your maps shows it as your responsibility but states it is not when I try to place a complaint against it). Please read all of this report before rejecting it. When entering Daventry/Flore relief road from the roundabout just off M1 j16 ( still restricted to 30mph with temporary signs) a derestriction sign indicates 60mph limit and when approaching the A5 roundabout clearly shows the A5 to be 40mph at that point with two permanent signs. If you approach this some roundabout from the Daventry direction it shows a temporary 30mph just off the new roundabout at the top of Weedon shortly followed by a temporary 40mph. When you approach the A5 roundabout from this direction it clearly shows a temporary 30mph sign indicating that the A5 is 30mph in contradiction of the permanent 40mph when approaching from the other direction.

There are other problems which just compound the issue. Leaving the Weedon cross roads heading North there are conflicting speed limit signs with temporary in contradiction of permanent signage. Approaching Weedon from the North there is a 30mph sign with advance markers which have been in place since the start of work on the relief road which was completed towards the end of 2018. The situation is a mess and needs sorting. permanent signs are in place but covered which I suspect indicate a 40 mph restriction based on the permanent sign previously described.

There are no on-going road works in the area at present.

I accept that not all of this is your responsibility but it would be reasonable to ask you to own the problem and pass on the issues to the relevant authorities to address. Bouncing it back to me achieves nothing.

I have previously contacted Highways England but without result.

Thank you, John Davis, Flore.
