Blocked drain gulleys.

Reported in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 13:59, Wednesday 15 January 2020

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 6 minutes later. ref: 1939581.

The drain gulleys all along Harborough Rd North have been blocked for many years now causing surface flooding near the cemetery which has been previously reported. In addition because my rain water from the house is directed to flow into this road drain it now cannot and is flowing back out of the drain and flooding my drive. The house drain has been inspected by Anglian Water and pressure washed to no avail. It is their opinion this is due to blocked road drains and beyond their control.

  • Have you an update please on the drain cleaning on Harborough Rd North now the 28 days have elapsed? Since first reported the flooding of my drive has deteriorated due to back flow and there is water flowing out of the gulley near Lynton Ave. Thanks.

  • A few days ago a contractor arrived to unblock the drains on Harborough Rd North. I spoke to them at a distance and they said they had come when this normally very busy road was quieter due to the Coronavirus. They used a sledge hammer to loosen the years of caked mud in the gulleys followed by a jet of water. Obviously this dislodged this mud into the main drain. They said they were going to flush the main drain with water from a long hose reel on the back of the lorry. They were not here long and I had my doubts this had been done particularly seeing the varying water levels in the drains after. Today’s rain has shown two out of the 3 drains closest to me overflowing. The level in the third is rising and will follow suit. Please do not sign this job off or pay the contractor until it has been carried out properly.

  • Flooding continuing as drains still have varying water levels and mud has not been cleared from the drains. Update requested as to when work will be completed. To date contractors only cleared gullies and broke up mud in drains, but did not clear, so flooding still taking place when it rains.
