Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 5 minutes later. ref: 1942179.
This is a reply to case ref 1937863 which has been politely closed but failing to at least provide guidance of what is required.
Please bear in mind that it is not the public's responsibility to put thing in motion between council, funds, police and maintenance companies. To me this sounds as your role, especially since your reply is signed as Northampton County Council.
The fund you talk about that need allocation get lost nonetheless via the emergency services that get involved to the place of the crash, every single time. Only for the last incident 2 (two) fire engines showed up. And this is not to say that police and ambulances are not constantly here too.
If you feel this is not for you to push forward to the relevant people, starting with your managers, at least have the courtesy to provide the email address or phone number of such a person and I will make the call.
Considering this is 2020 and we do not ride horses on muddy roads anymore, if people get injured on a regular basis because of "funds" then the responsible people should do their jobs. Feel free to access EU funds, it's not like this is not an option. Oh wait... you wanted Brexit.
Best regards, Rob Alexa

Thank you for your enquiry requesting for a roundabout to be installed for road safety reasons. Naturally we can appreciate the reasoning behind the suggestion, but unfortunately it is not the case of just adding a new roundabout or road markings at this location. Any engineering changes to the current situation would be classed as a major highway scheme and would firstly require consultation, feasibility studies and a complete redesign of the road junctions. Further to this a new roundabout junction would need increased lighting, with illuminated signing and introduce parking restrictions. As you may be aware the County Council are currently faced with huge challenges to maintain the safety and integrity of the existing highways across the whole county within the present financial budget constraint. We simply do not have the money to justify considerations of road layout changes and/or a new roundabout in this residential area of Northampton during this financial year. However requests for improvements to the highway are now ranked to determine the number of objectives and performance indicators that it meets, together with an assessment of the value for money that the scheme would deliver. In addition to this, Northamptonshire Highways work with local communities to secure improvements that deliver the most benefit to the majority of people. Road safety funding is targeted mainly at addressing collisions sites, with a number of injury collisions within 3 years, which have causational factors that can be addressed through engineering measures. We do monitor collision data as it is received so that we can react to any clusters or trends which might develop. Our network improvement funding is also mainly targeted at schemes which help improve facilities for walking or cycling, reduce congestion or which have significant match-funding and which bring about an improvement to the network. At the present time, it is not likely that the proposal would rank very highly under our current criteria. Therefore, we can only suggest that the way forward would be if the local Councillors are supportive and able to work with the County Council towards both local consensus and offer the appropriate funding. We would then be happy to work together towards these local aims where they conform to national guidance and current policy. This request for a roundabout at this junction could then be put into the funding bids for future financial years.
