Disintegrated tarmac, the verges are encroaching on the road - needs pushing back to make the road wider and safer

Reported in the Potholes / Highway Condition category by Pamela Tennyson at 11:27, Friday 17 January 2020

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 4 minutes later. ref: 1944464.

The whole stretch of road from the 30 zone sign at Charlton to the Hinton junction is unsafe at night / in poor weather / in peak time traffic. The edges of the road have been patched along most of this stretch, but this is inadequate. There are numerous potholes and disintegrating tarmac by the verge, forcing traffic to the middle of the road. In winter this is hazardous. The hill and bend a 1/2 mile from Charlton is especially hazardous, as is the dip near the water course just outside the village.

  • Hi, in support of this I've taken some photos of the southern verge of the stretch from the yellow indicator for about 400m. Your site allows three, but I've got a dozen more. It's truly atrocious. The road from Charlton to Kings Sutton looks the same width, but the tarmac is useable for the whole width - I made it six paces. On this stretch it's only five paces due to the disintegrating edges, with dangerous ruts 2 inches, 3 inches and more. This is an accident waiting to happen.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. A works order has already been raised and will be completed within 7 days to repair marked potholes. Also a works order has been raised for large patching from Hinton in the hedges cross roads to Charlton village which will be completed within 6 months.
