Gritter vehicle has damaged my brand new car at approx 7.30pm this evening as it flew past me
Reported in the Icy Road category anonymously at 21:44, Fri 17 January 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 1 minute later. ref: 1945936.
I was travelling from Daventry to Northampton on the A45 bypass this evening at approximately 7.30pm when a grit spreader on the opposite side of the road flew past me at (50-60 mph) spreading its grit. I was about a 30 seconds drive from reaching the m1 junction 16 roundabout. I saw the gritter from a distance and slowed and moved as far left as I could but it flew past me (it was heading towards Weedon/Daventry on the single carriageway new A45 bypass) and the impact of the grit it was spreading hit my car so hard it frightened my little boy and honestly felt like it was going to come through my window. It has completely ruined the paintwork on the whole drivers side of my car with long scratches and deep chip marks. I am angry and devastated as I picked up my new car yesterday evening!! It is ruined and I do not think I should have to foot the bill for this. I could not stop or have time in the dark to read it’s registration plate, it was travelling at speed and I could hardly do a u-turn and chase it. However you must have trackers in the vehicle that you could use to locate which one was gritting this particular road at that time this evening? I would really appreciate you providing me with the details of the vehicle that has absolutely ruined my new car so I can claim on my insurance to get it fixed. It is too dark to take pictures tonight but I can send over some to show you the damage it has caused to my car when I wake up tomorrow morning.
