Grit bin has been moved by highway maintenance
Reported in the Grit Bin - damaged/replacement category anonymously at 10:55, Sun 19 January 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 6 minutes later. ref: 1947576.
I have previously reported through this site about members of the public taking grit from the bin for their own personal use. This was when the bin was further up into the estate. Yesterday I saw the highway maintenance empty the bin and move it right to the bottom of Lancaster Way. I believe that the grit will now be more accessible to the public in its new location and that the houses that face onto the Towcester Road may use the grit as they don’t have their own grit bin. If someone wanted to grit Lancaster Way they would have to risk life and limb to walk down the road with a bucket or wheelbarrow to then push or carry the then heavy bucket or wheelbarrow back up the slope to grit the road. I would also like to know what responsibility the contractor of the new development has over gritting Lancaster Way. Every time a lorry leaves the site they spray the mud off the lorry and then spray the road. As we are now experiencing the first heavy frosts of the winter season the road is slippery. Are they responsible for gritting Lancaster Way.

The grit bin has been moved to make it more accessible for all members of the public to salt the public highway as is required. As this road is not on the precautionary gritted network the developer is not required to salt the highway however they are required to ensure the highway is kept clear of any obstructions, if there is excessive mud on the road at any time please report this on 03001261000 during office hours or 01604651074 outside of office hours.
