Cars turning left on Red onto pedestrian crossing.
Reported in the Pedestrian Barriers - Damaged / Missing category anonymously at 10:12, Tuesday 4 February 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 4 minutes later. ref: 1978018.
Three times in the last week, and numerous times in the past, I have witnessed cars doing this. I have been in the left-hand lane on Tollgate Way, to turn left onto Main Road. All lights are on red. When the lights turn green to drive straight on to Bants Lane, cars in the left-hand lane go as well (even though the left turn traffic light is on red). They turn left onto Main Road where there is immediately a pedestrian crossing. Pedestrians are usually crossing, (which is why the lights stay on red), especially at school times. Indeed, this morning there was a child crossing - luckily the car stopped in time. However, this happens all the time. More signage is required. It is very dangerous for pedestrians.

Traffic light phases and equipment found to be functioning correctly. Investigation ongoing to determine if green filter phase when turning left can be timed/aligned to match 'going ahead' phase. All three lanes will move off at same time with phase in Main Rd holding peds. The main consideration will be potential effects on congestion and capacity.
