Near misses again posted on Oundle Facebook site.
Reported in the Request Timing Review category anonymously at 17:46, Wed 5 February 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 5 minutes later. ref: 1981302.
Please will someone do something about the terrible layout and signage at the traffic lights on the A605 Barnwell Road junction at Oundle. There are numerous reports locally of lorries not stopping on red lights and driving straight through the junction nearly hitting cars coming out from Oundle. If the cars from Oundle didn't stop there would be a number of deaths now on your conscience as nothing seems to be done. All locals now stop to look left and right before pulling out from Oundle in case the traffic on the main road hasn't stopped. Completely defeating point of traffic control!!!! Please listen to locals concerns and reports of near misses. See Oundle Facebook site

Thank you for your report regarding the traffic signals on the A605 and the reports of lorries not stopping on red lights. These signals as I am sure you are aware have been in place for almost a year and although there is anecdotal evidence suggesting that the warning signage is not working, I do wonder if the issue relates mostly to poor driving. During the 8 weeks of construction of the scheme, there was a lot of publicity and I am sure both locals and the everyday commuters that use the A605 on a regular basis are fully aware of the new junction layout and that it is now signal controlled. In terms of advanced signing of the junction, the current signage is already over and above what would normally be used to sign a junction of this type. The circumstances you described may constitute road traffic offences. These are therefore matters for the police. By contacting the police website you can report a road traffic incident and request some enforcement attention. Contact www.northants.police.uk. The ‘report’ tab is on the front page. The junction is due a Stage 4 Road Safety Audit which is normally undertaken 12 months after the finished works are open to traffic. Once this has been undertaken I will look to the outcome of to see whether there are any indications in this as to whether there are any improvement measures that should be implemented.
