Possible one way system in naseby
Reported in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 09:49, Thu 13 February 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 9 minutes later. ref: 1995714.
Problems have arisen since the pavement was extended near the school and the double yellow lines. No problem with that in itself but this is having a knock on effect and hence parking at bottom of Bakehouse Rise and along the high street turning right. The guys at The bakehouse on the High Street have to park on the road outside their house and there is parking on the opposite side of the high street at the bottom of Bakehouse Rise. All the additional parking down the High street make it near on impossible to see down the road, although we have right of way. This parking is causing a dangerous situation for people pulling out of Bakehouse Rise when turning right. We cannot see down the road. A suggestion is that a single yellow line is placed on corner near post box up to entrance of The B&B and also on the left hand side and round corner (as you look at Bakehouse Rise) make it safer to park - people often park just inside Bakehouse too close to the junction making it tricky when turning into Bakehouse rise too. Given more houses in Naseby there is more traffic coming along the High street. I would like to suggest that the High Street is made one way from School Lane towards Newlands in that direction. I understand there is a form that I can complete with the Parish council. Please can you send me the form by email and I can attach a plan. Thanks.

Thank you for your query to Northamptonshire County Councils Street Doctor Service with regard to your request for the introduction of a one way system in Naseby. Whist one-way systems can have benefits in traffic management terms however introducing such measures in the wrong environment brings with it its own issues. Quite often the benefits do not outweigh negatives. From experience it is very unlikely that there would be widespread support of a one way system amongst residents. Long established ones are generally tolerated but newly proposed ones are often met with opposition, particularly from those people who are most affected. They are also inconvenient for residents and are liable to abuse, especially at night, as drivers may be tempted to travel a short distance against the one-way system to access their properties and often result in higher vehicle speeds as driver have no opposing traffic. There are likely to be issues initially with people accidentally turning the wrong way along the roads. Whilst there will be one way signs at intervals, you will still get people turning out of their drives and driving the wrong way simply because they are used to it. This is also likely to happen to visitors and delivery drivers who are not used to the area. Sat Nav devices will also take a number of years to update and so will still direct drivers down the wrong way. The number of signs would be significant and a number of these would require illumination. As well as no entry signs at the entry one way signs would be required throughout and existing road markings would need removal and new road markings required. The cost of this type of scheme would be significant and, in Northamptonshire Highways opinion, be unjustified. The introduction of this many signs and associated road markings would also not be in-keeping with a village environment. With regard to your request for additional parking restrictions in this area this may be a viable option. We would however need this request to come formally from The Parish Council as we would not consider introducing restrictions without their support from the start as they are statutory consultees in the legal process that has to be undertaken before lines can be introduced. I would therefore suggest contacting the Parish Council and if they are supportive of introducing restrictions they can contact Northamptonshire Highways to make a formal application.
