Pedestrian safety barrier over River Til at 249 Bedford Road NN10 0SQ has collapsed - danger 10 ft sheer drop into River

Reported in the Pedestrian Barriers - Damaged / Missing category anonymously at 10:29, Wednesday 19 February 2020

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council 7 minutes later. ref: 2008059.

The map would not allow correct location to be marked which is: footpath/ cyclepath next to A6 where it crosses the River Til at 249 Bedford Road Rushden. This wood post-and-rail safety barrier was installed by highways when the footpath was widened to include a cycleway in 1990s. The barrier has collapsed down the vertical river bank and the edge of the footpath is a vertical drop ten feet into the River. This barrier is not marked on your map even though it was constructed by highways when the footpath was widened towards the river. This pavement is unlit and represents a real danger as anyone who steps or cycles an inch from the edge as they plummet down a gorge into the river Til about twelve feet below the path edge. This was first reported 3 April 2018 ref: 934140 but no inspection was carried out and the barrier has now fallen right down the cliff face.
