Original reference number 1689233 The problem is still there it should of been done
Reported in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category anonymously at 16:00, Sun 23 February 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 5 minutes later. ref: 2016497.
Original reference no - 1689233 how can you close this out when the work has not been done. How come this is not a priority? You can clearly see from the photos that were sent that the corner is blocked by a parked car That means that women with push chairs have to walk in the road along with disabled scooters. This is a high risk of which you are not taking in to consideration. Why is it that most of the foot paths have been dropped round here for disabled access but not Allen Road. I feel we are being discriminated against. The corners of Allen Road need dropping and it’s as simple as that. It needs to be top priority especially when most other corners have been done years ago.

Thank you for your enquiry. Parking a vehicle inappropriately where it is deemed not possible for drivers to safely manoeuvre, pedestrians to pass unhindered along the footway or that access to public or private property is impeded, is against the law and should be reported to Northamptonshire Police’s Safer Community Team on 101 or via the Northamptonshire Police website. We do understand the frustration and concern with accessibility along the public highway in general for powered-mobility and wheelchairs. Subject to the local highway authority financial budget, we shall include your request onto our Northamptonshire Highways Small Works list for 2020/2021 and arrange for our Highway Technicians to conduct a visit to this area. They will be able to investigate if there are any concerns relating to design issues with constructing the dropped kerb/crossings at the road junctions to the safety standard details that are now required. In addition to this, we can identify any construction that may be restricted if any alterations encroached on land that is the responsibility of Northampton Borough Council, involve underground services and utility companies or is privately owned. Due to these reasons we are not immediately able to install dropped kerbing for wheelchair/mobility scooter/push-chair access as in previous times. In the meantime, please be assured that Northamptonshire Highways are aware of the importance that accessibility plays in our daily lives and that we work with local councillors to secure improvements that deliver the most benefit to communities.
