People using filter lane wrongly (barns meadow interchange)
Reported in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 09:20, Thu 27 February 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 6 minutes later. ref: 2025334.
The filter lane coming off the a45 slip road going towards bedford road which is a left turning at the traffic lights, people are using the 2nd lane to filter in when clearly stated that filter lane is only for traffic coming straight over from Northampton way not the people who just came off the a45 (wellingborough way) ¬ for the people in 2nd hand lane, either the road markings need to change so you can filter in or take it out because of the issues it produces, its causes so much traffic build up because people are using wrong lanes and people who have used the correct ones will not let them in and causes arguments and nearly ends up in car crashes all the time its absolutely ridiculous...
It is also unfair for the people who sit in traffic for 15 mins at them traffic lights to just have people swoop in because they believe they are entitled to use the wrong lane!

Thank you for your enquiry. Often in our urgency to get into work or heading home drivers may disregard courtesy and respect for other motorists, especially during the morning and evening ‘rush hour’. It is also regrettable that in our hurried lifestyles, good manners and common etiquette on our roads is seldom observed, with drivers often unintentionally blocking, changing lanes without indicating or ‘cutting off’ other vehicles. We do agree that there is the need to keep traffic moving, however the capacity issues dictate that at this busy area of Northampton carries the combined merged flows of traffic to and from the A45 Nene Valley Way, A428 Bedford Road and the town centre. Observations have shown that the problem is not one of road marking or signage, but again driver behaviour. Whilst we can understand the concern caused by those motorists prepared to drive irresponsibly and possibly break regulations within the Highway Code, unfortunately Northamptonshire Highways do not have any powers of enforcement in relation to moving traffic offences. If you wish to discuss with Northamptonshire Police about enforcement of dangerous driving, then please contact their local Safer Communities Team by calling the non-emergency telephone number 101 or by the following link on the Northants Police website. We shall of course continue to monitor traffic flows at peak times on this busy interchange.
