Cars regularly parking across entire pavement near Canal bridge Welton Lane
Reported in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category anonymously at 21:38, Sun 31 May 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2136634.
Welton Lane by Grand Union canal bridge. Cars are regularly parked across the entire pavement, and the entrance to the Gas works - on this occaision there were only 3 cars, some days close on 10 cars. between 6am and 10am virtually every day. Despite the numerous signs saying no parking. When its really bad, both sides are full of cars. Leaving pedestrians no choice but to walk in the road with cars travelling at 60mph, due to the pavement not being fully accessible.
Maybe some bollards or safety railings will help keep the pavements clear on both sides of the road. making it safer for pedestrians.

Thank you for your query to Northamptonshire County Council’s Street Doctor Service with regard to vehicles parking on the footway alongside the Canal bridge at Welton Road, Daventry. Northamptonshire Highways has recently installed further “Do not park on the footway” signs along this section however the Civil Parking enforcement Officers can only enforce where actual parking restrictions are in place (i.e. yellow lines). Parking on the footway is actually classified as an obstruction of the highway and is enforceable by the Police. We will therefore bring this to their attention for investigation as resources allow. With regard to the introduction of barriers this will be considered further if the problem persists and funding allows.
