Advertising car parked on verge, blocking view from slip road traffic attempting to merge

Reported in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 14:58, Monday 22 June 2020

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council less than a minute later. ref: 2167410.

Today a car belonging to “Dead or Alive” vehicle removals was parked on a verge that links Harlestone Rd and Lodge Way. The location of the car meant that they had to drive up a footpath over a kerb in order to park it there (illegal per Highway Code) and it’s being used as advertisement without proper proof of planning permission for what is essentially a billboard. But more importantly, the advertising car is now obscuring the view for those on the slip road who are attempting to merge onto Harlestone Road, which is incredibly dangerous. If you are attempting to merge onto Harlestone rd, you cannot see people turning right at the lights onto the same road as the car blocks this view. Additionally, the car blocks the view of the footpath and road crossing. If you are driving towards the opposite way, so drivers cannot see potential pedestrians attempting to cross the road from this path - we have lots of children and elderly in this area, so the paths must be completely unobscured to protect our must vulnerable.

This is dangerous and must be removed.

  • This situation is still a road hazard - I have witnessed 3 instances of cars pulling out of the slip road due to not being able to see the oncoming traffic, and 2 instances of pedestrians escaping near-miss situations (one of which was an elderly man who had dementia and already has issues crossing the street as it is).

PLEASE help us remove this car before someone gets hurt. We’re begging you.
