The black and white poles outside Valley road shops are leaning over . Also traffic calming measures are required down valley road . The traffic is driving at ridiculous speeds up and down the roads when visiting the shop . They drive up towards the end of the road and turn around in washbrook close before putting thir foot down and driving at dangerous speeds along the road . The road needs speed humps or other traffic calming near to the shop its a matter of time before someone gets knocked over due to the manner of driving.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. The area has been inspected and a highways works order (reference 220995) has been programmed to remove the damaged post and repair the footway. Regarding speeding vehicles, inappropriate driving behaviour and a request for traffic calming to be installed in your community. Whilst suggestions to slow down traffic on streets in our towns and villages does have merit, it must be pointed out that physical traffic calming measures such as build-outs, chicanes, speed humps etc. may not be entirely popular with all the local residents, as they could create further traffic noise outside properties and a possible increase in air pollution. Introducing such highway measures will also unfortunately do little to stop inconsiderate and/or inexperienced drivers, determined ‘joy riders’ or ‘outlaw bikers’ etc. or local individuals from speeding or careless driving in general. This safety concern would be a matter for Northamptonshire Police, as they would have the ability to decide on taking appropriate action against drivers that may be breaking traffic laws within this residential area. Northamptonshire Police can consider operating traffic surveys or mobile enforcement. Such requests can be done via your local Safer Communities Team by calling the non-emergency telephone number 101 or by the following link on the Northants Police website. In addition to this, the Northamptonshire Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner has information that may be of interest to you and for those in communities who have concerns about speeding drivers. This involves running a Community Speed Watch initiative and empowers communities to help cut speeding in their areas. The Police’s Community Speed Watch initiative provides all that is needed to be able to catch speeding drivers and allowing the public to take control of problem with speeding in areas in their community. For more information about how to create a local Community Speed Watch scheme, email: commissioner@northantspcc.pnn.police.uk
