Lighrs fail to detect cycles
Reported in the Signal Stuck category anonymously at 15:35, Sun 12 July 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2196720.
Travelling North on Cotton End, turning right into New South Bridge Road. I made an extra effort to ride over the detection loops but the lights went through two full cycles without offering a tight turn filter until a motor vehicle came up behind. I have reported this 5 or 6 times previously and although I've had responses saying it's been fixed, I have never had the lights respond to me. It's almost as though cycling isn't considered a valid mode of using roads

Thank you for contacting Northamptonshire Highways. Replacement detector cards have been sourced which have been installed within the controller. These have a wider sensitivity range. The detector loops rely on the presence of ferrous metals to detect. Most modern bicycles contain mostly carbon fibre and aluminium which cannot be detected. At present, there is no suitable detection approved for use in the UK available that can 100% reliably detected the presence of cyclists. We will continue to monitor the junction. We apologise for the delay in responding to your report. This has been due to sourcing the required parts.
