Dear Sir/Madam, I sent the following message to Daventry DC but they have pointed me towards you:- I am mailing to report what could be quite a serious safety concern, although a regular occurance I have noticed the following incidents happening more frequent in just the past 2 weeks alone, it concerns the footpath adjacent to my property that joins Ash Close to Peartree Close, on Ashby Fields, Daventry, most evenings between 2200hrs & midnight a moped is using the FOOTPATH as a cut through. As its a sloping footpath we have noticed children using it to go up and down on their scooters, not a problem of them using it but they have gone down at speed with no way of stopping at the bottom until they are into the roadway, it's not a busy close but traffic does come and go and a child zooming into the road is not what people will be expecting, we have said to them to be careful but they are kids after all, and continue to live dangerously. its only a matter of time before they run into or are run over by a car/van. Finally, last weekend we were out gardening and a cyclist (the same one who comes down every day on his way home from work) came down at speed as he usually does and nearly knocked over the postman who was doing his rounds. we did shout out to him, he briefly turned round but kept on going. there is a yellow post at the top to stop cars using it, but I believe in the interests of the safety of the public, it needs a staggered barrier installed before someone is seriously injured by car or an inconsiderate Cyclist/moped user. I didn't know how to inform you of this so apologies if it's the wrong way, but I am hopeful someone will pick it up and it will be passed onto the relevant person/department. I look forward to your response to this. Kind regards Simon Cook

Thank you for your query to Northamptonshire county Council’s Street Doctor Service with regard to your concerns about cyclists and a moped using the footpath that joins Ash Close to Peartree Close, on Ashby Fields, Daventry Whilst bollards and barriers have been installed on footways in the past to try and dissuaded such illegal and anti-social behaviour, many have since had to be removed to allow access for all in the community such as wheelchair/mobility scooter users and those with buggies or pushchairs. Where barriers have been installed previously this has also led to youths climbing on them to access neighbouring residents properties. This is a straight footway link so cyclists and pedestrians should be able to see other when accessing this section. With regard to its use by a motorcycle I would suggest that this is brought to the attention of Northamptonshire Police’s local Safer Community Team by telephoning the non-emergency number 101 or following the link on the Northamptonshire Police website https://www.northants.police.uk/ ro/ report/ asb/ asb-b/ report-antisocial-behaviour/ .
