Storm drains in pavement blocked
Reported in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 15:02, Thu 16 July 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2203370.
The storm drains set into the pavement outside nos. 18-20 Benefield Road Oundle PE8 4ET are severely blocked by soil and vegetation. As this pavement is below street level, this creates a significant risk of flooding to our property. The situation is exacerbated by the corresponding drain on the other side of the road (in the entrance to the car park) being likewise totally blocked. This means that rainwater flowing down from the car park, across the road, is not drained and instead can flood our property. This problem has worsened over the spring/summer.

Thanks to your failure to take action our home has now been flooded. The blocked gullies were reported over 4 weeks ago. You did NOTHING! Now our home has been damaged.

14 and 16 Benefield Road were also flooded under the front doors on Sunday. There are so few drains along that stretch, with no proper gullies, and one of the drains is blocked with mud and debris. This issue was reported over a month ago!!

Concern that heavy rain is due again on 19/8/20 and problems this may cause. Request for Highways to come out before then to investigate due to the funding that has taken place.

NCC have been on notice since 16/07 that the blocked drainage posed a flood risk. Porperties were flooded on 16/08 as no remedial action had been taken. Further heavy rain is forecast later today, and still there is no sign of NCC making any attempt to clear the gullies and drains to protect properties from further damage. This is negligence for which NCC will be held accountable.

I've cleared much of the mud, uncovered a drain cover that was invisible and useless owing to deep mud cover, unblocked two drain covers and emptied a bucketful of silt out of one drain. I've done the best I can with a hand trowel but the situation urgently needs remedying using proper equipment.

On 23rd August NCC posted that "a job for repair has been raised". Over 3 weeks later no repairs have been undertaken and therefore our home remains at risk of flood again. Please confirm the date upon which these urgently required remedial works will be undertaken.

Still nothing has been done. These properties remain at risk of flooding again. From your work schedule we can see this is scheduled for work between 20th October and 20th November 2020. This should be seen as an urgent priority, not something that takes between 3 and 4 months to even look at. Nothing in Oundle seems to be on the NCC priority list.
