10 week road closure
Reported in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 18:46, Thu 23 July 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2214025.
Just been notified road to be completely closed for ten weeks? The works are apparently crossing the highway with two pipes. That is a matter of days work not ten weeks. Anglia Water are clearly incorporating the PUBLIC HIGHWAY into their construction site for the duration of the works, purely for their own convenience. For ten weeks rather than a few days the PUBLIC will be inconvenienced in terms of time and mileage to use a diversion. The Highway Authority should be acting on behalf of the PUBLIC and not the convenience of contractors. Who is responsible for this commercial decision by a PUBLIC service?

I have had no reply, merely an automatic acknowledgement. The road on which I live has this morning become the diversion route which will increase traffic by several 100%. This unnecessary and idiotic plan requires justification.

Hi Anthony, I have just recieved the up to date programme from A/W and the works are as follows: • The Road crossing and reinstatement were completed 04.08.20 • Access splay off the highway has been formed and was tarmac’d 04.08.20 • Work within the ditch area and site entrance (valve cover installation and making up ground to finish level) will continue will be completed by 14.08.20 • We are awaiting confirmation of a hedge removal permit (if we can we may utilise directional drilling techniques to reduce the road closure time we will - I shall know more early next week if this is possible) for the final installation of ducting connection to existing draw pits either side of the road crossing – working within the highway verges – Date to be confirmed • Trimming back of the hedgerow to allow full visual egress from the site – this will be done just before the road closure is lifted • Installation of Post & Rail to secure hedge line should the hedge removal be used – working within highway verge, hopefully the closure will only last until 28.08.20 and not till October as stated previously.

The diversion was lifted several days ago. There is one excavation across the road about 450-600mm wide. The work took a couple of weeks but the public were told about five times that time and in the absence of any revised date, are still under Notice from Anglian Water that the road is closed and remains so until October. Are they to embarrassed to do the right thing and send out a revised Notice?
