Urgently needs SLOW DOWN road marking on the Welford Road on bend just before Merry Tom Lane T junction.
Reported in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 12:39, Sat 25 July 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2216098.
Accidents waiting to happen with fatalities. The top of Merry Tom Lane is extremely hazardous when pulling out onto Welford Road, turning left or right. There is not sufficient distance to pull out before cars travelling 60mph appear around the blind bend from the Spratton direction, and befire you know it are at the rear of your vehicle. Urgently needs a warning on the road before the blind bend to SLOW DOWN. It would also be advisable if a 30 mph speed limit was put in place just before the blind bend.
We have nearly been taken out on numerous occasions and have also witnessed many other vehicles leaving the top of Merry Tom Lane experiencing the same problem.
I regret to say that there will be a fatality at this T junction before too long.
This has been happening for quite some time now. There previously was a marking on the road before the blind bend to inform peoplele to slow down but unfortunately this is no longer there.

Thank you for your query to Northamptonshire County Council’s Street Doctor Service with regard to your concerns about exiting Merry Tom Lane onto the A5199 Welford Road. The injury accident records for the section from the Chapel Brampton village nameplate out to the Spratton Sands bend, over the last five years has been checked, and we confirm that only a single incident has been reported by the Police in this time. This site would therefore not currently warrant the introduction of any other measures compared to many other roads in the county with much higher levels of recorded accidents. This accident record of this section, along with all the roads throughout the county, will continue to be monitored by our Road Safety team. Any sections where clusters of accidents are occurring will be investigated further and, if appropriate, further measures will then be considered.. Unfortunately every section of road network represents a risk to one type of road user or another and it is impossible to totally eliminate those risks. It is likely that the majority of motorists travelling on this road are law abiding and compliant. Regrettably there will always be a small minority of thoughtless motorists who disregard limits and do not drive in accordance with the conditions of the road or environment.
