Greenway, cycle path blocked by local shop extending out onto the pavement.
Reported in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category anonymously at 12:43, Mon 27 July 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2218452.
This began in lockdown, however, the food shortage is no longer an issue and all has returned to normal with people now wanting to use the cycleway to get to and from work, as this is what it was designed for, and children cycling to and from school in September. This is up from around 6am throughout the day 7 days a week and shoppers queuing are also adding to the obstruction.

Shop contacted and required to remove marquee structure. Tables can remain provided sufficient footway space exists around them.

Your request has not had any impact. My understanding for an unsegregated shared use path a minimum 3m is required, even with the marquee removed this is not achieved as the path is 3m wide. The signs at either end of this stretch have also been moved to suggest that cyclist use a different route, not the designated route.

Shop was contacted again this morning, and situation re-affirmed. Was assured gazebos would be removed. Am inspecting on Friday to ensure. Trading tables are permitted to remain in highway so long as 1.8m of space exists around them for free movement

Shop was contacted again this morning, and situation re-affirmed. Was assured gazebos would be removed. Am inspecting on Friday to ensure. Trading tables are permitted to remain in highway so long as 1.8m of space exists around them for free movement. Follow-up - inspection on 07/08/20 saw large gazebo/marquee structure had been removed, tables have individual coverings that do not increase their footprint, which is acceptable.
State changed to: No further action
