Verge heavily rutted, churned up by parked vehicles
Reported in the Verges - Damaged by Vehicles category anonymously at 11:35, Sat 1 August 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2225840.
The grass verges on this street are being destroyed by parked vehicles. This is the worse one affected which is outside numbers 28 & 30. Muck is being spread over the pavement and road causing hazards to pedestrians and cyclists. Cars and vans parked half-on-half-off are limiting the visibility of pedestrians crossing the road to motorists. This mess ruins the look and appeal of the neighborhood and upsets local residents. This has been going on for over a year. Please repair/restore the verge and install a mesh or grate to protect it from further damage. Ideally a better long term solution would be to covert all the grass verges on this street into parking bays.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding damage to the grass verges that may be caused by vehicles driving or parking on them. We do appreciate that there are areas where parking is at a premium and people endeavour to maximise the available on-street and off-road parking spaces. Unfortunately, the County Council would not consider installing a hard surface, meshing or grating on roadside grass verges and no longer consider installing ‘No Parking’ type signs or such measures at wooden posts, bollards or barriers to prevent parking on verges to be a priority. Nevertheless, some verges may look aesthetically messy and unsightly, especially after wet or inclement weather. Therefore if there is significantly damage to a roadside grass verge, this can also be reported on the Northamptonshire County Council’s online ‘Street Doctor’ system Street Doctor for consideration under our annual maintenance programme for re-seeding (or re-turf if particularly muddy/roiled) and within the constraints of the Northamptonshire Highways financial budget.
