Numerous cars parked on verge, road and pavements

Reported in the Verges - Damaged by Vehicles category anonymously at 23:38, Thursday 6 August 2020

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council less than a minute later. ref: 2234293.

There are 6-11 cars from the house on the corner of Sherwood Drive and New Forest Way which are parked on the verge causing damage. They also obstruct the pavement and road, causing tension and bottlenecks to road users and pedestrians. This has been an ongoing problem for many years but seems to be getting worse lately.

  • Thank you for your query to Northamptonshire County Council’s Street Doctor Service with regard to vehicles parking on the verge in Sherwood Drive / New Forrest Way Daventry. It is not actually an offence to park a vehicle on the verge and the County Council can only take enforcement action if there are parking restrictions (i.e. double yellow lines in place). The Police would also not be able to take action for obstruction as although the vehicles are parked on the verge they do not appear to restricting visibility at the junction or totally blocking the footway. However as the verge forms part of the public highway it would be an offence if any of the vehicles parked on this area did not hold current tax and insurance and (if applicable) a MoT certificate. A vehicle should also not be parked on the Highway if it is declared Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN). These details can be checked on the following Government website check-vehicle-tax and any breaches reported on the website Due to the number of cars in the vicinity of the property it may be worth bringing this to the attention of Daventry District Council as the resident may be trading vehicles from this address which may breach local restrictions. Daventry District Council can be contacted at the following website contact/ .
