Drain has insufficient capacity/blocking leading to flooding
Reported in the Blocked/Damaged category by Kevin Appleton at 16:46, Thu 13 August 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2244149.
The capacity of the drain is just insufficient to cope with flash flooding and the road « lake » then vents on and through an adjacent property (ours). This was « fixed » last year but there is still clearly a capacity issue for the volume of run-off generated in heavy rain.

There was a flash flood at the corner of Francis Row this morning Thursday 13 August 2020 despite the drain being fixed last year. Is the drain blocked? Is the drain big enough to cope with extreme heavy rainfall? Does the road camber need to be lowered so extreme excess water pooling will be directed down the footpath and not into neighbouring properties?

This is the stream of water heading onto our property and I to our garage door after further rain at 04:30 today. This was sufficiently concerning to wake a number of people up. Again I emphasise that this was supposedly fixed after multiple visits and excavations just a few months ago as your records should show. The street drain here is INADEQUATE FOR THE VOLUME OF RUN-OFF.

Evidence of drains on corner of Francis Row NN7 4SL not working. Torrential rain started about 4.15 am First photo taken at 4.36, difficult to get a clear photo as lashing down. Photos 2 and 3 taken at 5.01. Drain needs to be pumped urgent. This isn't the worst rain we have had in recent past so the fact that drain isn't coping is very worrying considering more rain forecast in next few days and ongoing.

A broken drain cover has been replaced this past week with one of larger size, which is good, thank you. However, the problem does not appear to be the rate at which water can get INTO the drains but rather the speed at which it can exit the system via a pretty old undersoil outlet in an adjacent field. Recent additions to surfaced off-road parking in the catchment area for this drain mean that run off is entering the system much faster than it can vent. Are there any updates on visits to discuss with residents?

Council contractors came out on 3rd (?) November for half a day to produce this. It is a 1 ft wide channel in mud with about 4 ins of concrete in the bottom. The side are mud and unsupported. This will last until (a) someone parks on it or (b) it rains and the mud collapses in on it. The council inspector had talked about a "grip" and this is definitely not one of those. A waste of public money.
