Background to this complaint is flood damage being caused to our house (205A,) and our neighbours (205 and 203) approximately 5 years ago by the same problem although different drains. The excess flow of water (effecting our house) is being caused (apart from the obvious storms) as a result of two issues: Fundamental structural issues – (1) serious flows of water downhill from both Charles Street and Pollard Street. Both of these streets have a number of drains that are completely silted up. This is a serious issue as drainage can be compromised at the best of times by parked cars. (2) To safeguard our house from excessive water the drainage gully outside our drive was connected to the main sewer through the path drain outside No 203 by NCC. This was overwhelmed by the flow of water coming down Rockingham Road. Debris – without routine road cleaning even functional drains are blocking. In two of the last storms I was able to clear drain covers along Rockingham Road, bottom of Britannia Road, Charles Street and Pollard Street prior to the storm. Despite this in all three cases I had to go out in series rain and Lightning and clear the drains again. As a result each time I have to put my own life at risk on Rockingham Road due poor visibility and traffic speed (increased since the road was opened up last year to town centre traffic). I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter further.
