Incorrect Parking Bay
Reported in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 12:32, Mon 14 September 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 5 minutes later. ref: 2293704.
The parking bay on Hayway has been marked in a location that completely obscures viability when pulling out from Spencer Road onto Hayway. This directly contradicts your own advise for a 43m viability splay for access onto a 30mph road. This is dangerous and has caused several near accidents.

This junction is very dangerous at the best of times due to the traffic on Hayway and the cars parked close to the junction. Is there any chance a mirror could be placed opposite the Spencer Road junction, so that traffic is visible when pulling out?

The 43m visibility splay is a condition for private driveways under planning permission, to ensure this distance of visibility is not impeded by anything within the premises concerned. However parking on the highway is not included within this, otherwise roads with driveways might have little or no on-street parking. The Highway Code says DO NOT park within 10m of a junction, which is the standard we normally apply when assessing parking in 30mph areas. Unfortunately we cannot give permission for mirrors to be used in the highway in any circumstances. Apologies for the delay in replying to this enquiry. A reply was provided previously, but for some reason it was not uploaded correctly.
