Big shock from deep rut in Brington Lane bodge-mend
Reported in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 18:29, Sun 20 September 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways 11 hours, 33 minutes later. ref: 2303746.
Water draining across the road has caused potholes; these have been mended but the latest mend has sunk significantly in the middle; wearing sunglasses this rounded rut was invisible in the shade, especially as I was travelling fairly fast (freewheeling) down Brington Lane hill out of Whilton towards Great Brington. This caused my Ortlieb rear pannier to fly off, one clip forced open, the other's captive nut was forced out of its groove and was very difficult to reinstall. A water bottle flew off, too, but fortunately I stayed upright so stopped to pick everything up and fix the pannier. My loud swearing attracted the attention of a local who said the holes had been fixed many times. I noticed that the water has now been diverted across the road slightly lower down so we can expect potholes there instead - unless a gully is installed (hint!). While we wait for the rut to be fixed (ideally properly) please can it be made more obvious with some sign or road marking; thanks.
