Reported in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 10:26, Thursday 24 September 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire County Council less than a minute later. ref: 2309622.
Im not sure why this case has been closed, I reported that my house is shaking when large vehicles are coming up the road. I have had some render come away from the house last week because of this and its just going to get worse. There must be a reason why my house is shaking when large vehicles are going past and want someone to look into it, it was never like this when I moved in

Thank you for your enquiry. Regarding apparent vibration to your property caused by passing vehicular traffic. Unfortunately our Highway Maintenance Plan does not make any allowances for problems of noise or vibration caused by either traffic movement or a poor road surface, and only deals with issues where damage has occurred. If we were to utilises our highway maintenance budget in an attempt to resolve these issues we may then inadvertently set a precedent with other properties across Northamptonshire which are experiencing similar problems. It may of course not be the road surface or volume of vehicles which is causing the issue, but perhaps an issue with the design of the property, including any underground services, or the historic road layout itself, along with possibly the movement of juggernauts, commercial vehicles (to and from the nearby shopping centre and industrial estate), large construction vehicles or public transport etc. that are passing by your property along this route. Consequently, if noise and/or vibration is happening then unfortunately it is a matter for the property owner to prove from an independent survey that any damage to her property is caused from an actual issue with the road maintenance
