Vehicles are continuous parked on the grass verge from the Red Lion Pub to the Lodge.
Reported in the Verges - Damaged by Vehicles category anonymously at 17:09, Thu 24 September 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2310426.
Cars and Workmans vehicles have continuous parked along the grass verge since July. The grass is chewed up and the local gardener could not cut the grass along this stretch - not that there much left. These vehicles are all associated with the building works at the Old Farm House. In the planning consent, it clearly says not to use the verge.

Thank you for your query to Northamptonshire County Council’s Street Doctor Service with regard to verge parking issues along Harborough Road Brixworth. The current highway law relating to parking on verges is complex and does not give local authorities much leverage to tackle these particular issues and this is a perennial problem throughout many areas of the county with many households owning multiple vehicles. It is not actually an offence to park on a verge unless it causes an obstruction or contravenes any parking restrictions (i.e. yellow lines). In the past we have attempted to discourage verge parking by the introduction of “Do not park on the verge signs” however these are purely advisory and have no legal significance. It was found that these signs proved generally ineffective in areas where it was local residents or tradesmen working on properties parking on the verge as they were generally ignored by locals and no action could be taken against them. These are now only generally considered for use in the vicinity of schools where there is good justification on safety grounds rather than to protect a verge for aesthetic reasons. Any defects in the verge that are considered as safety hazards will be picked up on routine walked inspections of the area attended to as necessary.
