Excess Noise

Reported via iOS in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 11:33, Fri 25 September 2020

Sent to Northamptonshire County Council less than a minute later. ref: 2311232.

Unfortaubtely due to this stretch of the road being in poor condition there is excess noise which I know is causing many residents bordering the road issues. At times the road noise is in excess of 100db but frequently over 80db. Mainly this is the noise of empty lorries hitting bumps in the road, however the general drone of tyres is over 70db. These levels are harmful to human health. Can investigations be done to see about changing the road surface, maybe using the money from the roundabout given to CBC by the council.

  • Thanks for looking into this. I note you make comment on noise and CBC, CBC deal with statutory nuisance, noise from general and lawful use of a highway isn’t a statutory nuisance.

I know this won’t be an easy quick fix, but if consideration can be given to work, even if not funded but to be funded from future programmes of work that would be appreciated. The residents are going to look at options in sending letters. The issue isn’t the road per se, residents accept the road, but the noise produced from the surface, plus any imperfections (particularly empty heavy lorry’s passing over imperfections) create noise which is in excess of healthy levels.

More than happy for a chat in person, telephone etc to talk in more details.
