Gate across bridleway UF10 chained
Reported in the Passage-Obstructed/Overgrown category anonymously at 16:36, Monday 28 September 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire County Council less than a minute later. ref: 2315714.
The gate across UF10 is locked with a chain. Whilst walking near by I was alerted by two groups walking that they had found the gate locked so that they were obstructed from continuing along the bridleway. One group by passed it through a field (marked private no right of way). The other had to climb over. All those concerned were senior citizens and this route is walked daily by many people, particularly dog walkers and runners from Oundle. On reaching the gate I found it chained. This is not normally the case and I have walked it several times this year without problem. Today however the chain was locked with a bolt with nuts at either end. I was able to remove one of the nuts with my fingers to release the chain, but it wasn't obvious and clearly misled the other walkers referred to above. If it must be chained, never used to be, one with a spring clip would suffice.
