Large pot holes, cracks and uneven surface
Reported via desktop in the Slabs - Uneven / Damaged / Cracked category anonymously at 11:54, Thu 15 October 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2342054.
The footpath is in a poor state of decay. Due to the pot holes and uneven surface has resulted in several people stumbling and falling over causing fortunately minor scuffs. Recently our young Granddaughter fell onto the road after her foot went down one of the pot holes (photo with 50p coin). Some parts of the path have sunk quite severely and quite a lot of the tarmac has broken away revealing large cracks and pot holes.

Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand that you have concerns about the condition of the pathway adjacent to Alledge drive; specifically, that you feel the surface is poor, damaged and caused your granddaughter to trip over. We appreciate your concerns and have carried out an assessment of the issue and are pleased to confirm that the footpath defects that meet the specifications for remedial work, that you have indicated in this location, still has a repair scheduled to resolve them. This should hopefully be completed within a months’ time. This should hopefully be completed within 28 days’ time. We would like to sincerely apologise for the delay in addressing this issue as we understand work was scheduled back in October. Unfortunately, the schedule for carrying out these repairs was pushed back by unforeseen serious safety issues on our Highways taking precedent; however, we can understand how frustrating the situation has been for you. Please be assured that you will receive an update once repairs are concluded.

Thank you for your response. For your reference the Tarmac crew turned up 8am Saturday12 June 2021. Both my neighbour and myself went to discuss the crews objective for repairing the path. The Gang master on initial inspection dismissed the repair job and stated that due to the dilapidation and poor state of the path they were unable to carry out the intended works. They said the path was so uneven with large sunken parts and other areas where the path surface was well above the ground edge line. (This was without any mention about the large cracks / pot holes). They said the only method of reinstating a proper footpath would require re-base and a top coat. I have supplied further photos to hopefully identify these issues. I am sure that my views on this matter will match and be confirmed by the Tarmac Crews assessment feedback report. For your information regarding my initial statement about my Granddaughter falling into the road. I made reference to this situation because having to deal with my Granddaughters discomfort resulting from the fall was the last straw. This made me initiate the request because my partner and myself had both previous experience of falling over and I'd received an injury from my fall, but just coped. Due to these cumulative incidents made me realise that this is an issue and needs addressing, which is why I am pursuing for the path to be repaired.
