Overgrown Footpaths
Reported via desktop in the Passage-Obstructed/Overgrown category anonymously at 12:23, Thu 29 October 2020
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2362353.
In and around Strixton, Wollaston & Bozeat. Unfortunately, the footpaths were very difficult to negotiate because they are all overgrown. This includes the footpaths from Strixton through the quarry and across farmland. They were so difficult to negotiate that my husband got very scratched and very wet. We understand that it is the responsibility of highways to keep these footpaths clear as they are public rights of way. I have attached some photographs so that you can see just how overgrown the footpaths actually are

Thank you for your enquiry, whilst we have taken note of your comments unfortunately unless we know the specific location and issue we cannot take any further action regarding your report. I can confirm that the majority of Public Rights of Way (PRoW) are on private land and are not owned by NCC. The responsibility for maintaining PRoW are shared between NCC and the landowner. In regards to vegetation, the general principle is that NCC would be responsible for the clearance of naturally occurring vegetation, such as weeds and grass etc. A landowner is responsible for clearing vegetation where they have deliberately sown , in effect crops on cross-field paths. Trees and hedges are also generally the landowners responsibility to maintain. Therefore if you can provide us with the specific issue and locations, we would be happy to look into these matters for you.
